The founders of BIP Visualized had deep expertise in Applied Behavior Analysis and a clear vision: behavior intervention plans were failing because they were too complex, too text-heavy, and too hard for teachers, parents, and staff to actually use. Traditional written BIPs average just 38% accuracy when implemented and get used in classrooms for an average of only 14 days.

A behavior expert assesses a child, designs a plan, and writes it up. Within three weeks, the document is sitting in a drawer while the classroom goes back to improvising. The expertise was real and the plan was sound, but the format failed everyone who had to live with it day to day.

The founders knew visual plans could change that. What they needed was a technical partner who could turn the insight into a real product. And the product had a high bar to clear from day one: it would handle sensitive information about children and families, which meant HIPAA compliance was a requirement of the first release, not a feature for later. At the same time, the tool had to stay simple enough that a busy teacher or parent with no technical training could pick it up and use it.

A trusted referral connected us. The founders had the domain expertise and the business plan. They needed a team that could take full technical ownership - architect the product, build it right, and stay on to run it as the business grew. They weren’t looking for a contractor to hand a spec to. They were looking for a technical co-founder they could trust.

We embedded as the technical team from day one, covering architecture, infrastructure, development, and deployment.

The foundation came first. We built the platform on Ruby on Rails and PostgreSQL, hosted on Heroku, with Redis and Sidekiq handling background work and an RSpec suite covering the codebase as it grew. The stack was chosen for the same reason we recommend it to most early-stage products: it let a small team move fast without giving up the reliability that a HIPAA-compliant platform demands. Compliance shaped decisions about infrastructure, data handling, and access from the first commit, because retrofitting it later is far more expensive than building with it in mind.

On that foundation we built the product itself: a HIPAA-compliant platform that lets behavior experts create visual BIPs in under 30 minutes, 78% faster than traditional written plans. Around that core we added a library of reusable visual strategies, collaboration and sharing tools so a plan actually reaches the teachers, staff, and families who implement it, data tracking, and a growing suite of training courses for BCBAs, teachers, behavior staff, and families.

We launched the MVP in 5 months. Shipping that quickly meant making disciplined scope decisions with the founders about what the first version had to prove, and leaving everything else for the versions after it. From there, we iterated based on real user feedback, expanding the product from a single BIP creation tool into a comprehensive platform serving ABA agencies, schools, and independent professionals. Each of those audiences uses the product differently, and the platform grew to meet them where they work: agencies managing plans across many clients and staff, schools coordinating between classrooms and specialists, and independent professionals running their own practices on it.
